Colleges of Distinction 2024-2025 | NursingAs a first-year student, you’ll find yourself launching head-first into a rigorous curriculum. With the support of an experienced nursing faculty adviser, you’ll receive academic and professional guidance throughout your nursing education at Shenandoah. If you're interested in a different kind of challenge to supplement your nursing education, you can also apply to Shenandoah's Honors Program. You will also have direct access to a full range of student-life activities on and off campus. After you’ve completed your studies, you’ll sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), prepared with the skills and knowledge to apply for entry-level professional nurse positions.

Transfer Tracks into Shenandoah University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Transfer BSN

The Transfer BSN track begins in the fall or spring semester and may be completed in five academic semesters.

Our program allows you to gain the experience necessary for the provision, management and coordination of general nursing care for individuals, families, groups and communities so you may launch a career that leads to personal and professional fulfillment.

Accelerated BSN

The Accelerated BSN track is an innovative second degree program that allows students with non-nursing degrees to quickly become an entry-level nurse.

The 15-month ABSN track is designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing discipline to quickly complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Your existing bachelor’s degree will fulfill most of your non-nursing courses, allowing you to focus exclusively on your Nursing studies and earn a traditionally four-year BSN in only 15 months.

The curricula for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs combine important knowledge and skills with a friendly and caring spirit. Students like you share diverse backgrounds and personal and professional experiences with seasoned teaching faculty and clinical preceptors, who contribute to robust classroom discussions and enriching and exciting clinical interactions. Our goal is to prepare and challenge you for that next step in your professional career.

Replete with standard and active-learning classrooms, meeting and study spaces, cadaver lab, laboratories and lounges, the 71,000-square-foot building is home to nursing, respiratory care, and pre-health programs.

The cutting-edge simulation suite is comprised of four rooms configured as an emergency department (ER) and operating room (OR), an intensive care unit (ICU), labor & delivery and pediatrics, and a medical-surgical unit.

Loudoun

This facility is an option for Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing students. The Loudoun location offers classrooms, a 100 seat lecture/activity room, a computer laboratory, a student lounge area, a library study area, cadaver lab, and three nursing simulation laboratories.

Faith Community/ Parish Nursing

A Faith Community Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who has had educational preparation in wholistic ministry and who provides special health promotion services within a given faith community. A Safe and State-of-the-Art Way To Practice Nursing Skills

Our simulation suite’s high-fidelity simulation spaces mimic real-world clinical settings, including labor and delivery, a medical/surgical hospital room, a small apartment, and a combination ER/ICU and feature state-of-the art adult, pediatric, birthing and newborn simulators, all of which respond to nursing interventions with the expected human physiologic response. This means that they can accept IV catheters; bleed; have heart, lung and bowel sounds; and have chest-rise when breathing. They’re even wired for sound, so they can respond appropriately to students’ care. 

 

Within this suite, our students expand upon their didactic, clinical and skills lab learning. It’s a safe learning environment that enables students to make mistakes, challenge their thinking and develop clinical judgment.
